Keys and Cores
For Masterkey Systems
Developing cores and keys requires a high level of precision. That’s why we cut each key and pin each core ourselves directly from your masterkey codes. We offer cores and keys that can offer different security solutions depending on your needs, whether that’s standard, patented, or restricted key systems.
What Is A Masterkey System?
Masterkey systems are hierarchical systems made up of cores and keys that control who can access specific locks. This system is hierarchical because while some keys may only open one lock, a “master key” may open many or all locks in a building or multiple buildings. The larger and more complex the building, the more complex the master key system may be.
A Masterkey system not only prohibits different individuals from accessing different parts of the building, but can also be an affordable option for securing your building. Should a standard key be misplaced, for instance, only the locks that the lost key accessed will need to be replaced instead of the entire building.
Small Format Interchangeable Cores
Small Format Interchangeable Cores (SFICs) easily help support these systems. These cores are part of the lock where the key is inserted and can be removed and replaced without having to replace the entire lock mechanism.
SFICs are universal in size and can be used in any lock that supports an SFIC. These are different from Large Format Interchangeable Cores (LFICs) and Full-Sized Interchangeable Cores (FSICs), which are both brand-specific.
Oak prioritizes SFIC cores, as it allows the greatest flexibility so that facility managers can change lock brands without needing to rekey their entire facility.

Oak’s Masterkey Process
We take the masterkey system even further through masterkey design. Our cores and keys are designed to service your specific building’s layout. Through facility assessments, unique masterkey designs, and rekeying your facility, we’re able to build a system that is secure and unique to you – all baked into the cost of our cores and keys.
We begin by completing a thorough assessment of your facility and current hardware to review any potential security risks or needs within your building.
Once the assessment is complete, we can develop a comprehensive solution by providing door access control hardware as well as a customized facility masterkey system in the case of any current keying problems.
We also provide flexibility for any future keying needs. By managing your masterkey system, we can provide new lock combinations as needed, grow your masterkey system as you grow or assist with repinning compromised locks if a key is lost.
If you’ve already invested in an existing SFIC system, our SFIC offers:
- Interchangeability with your current system
- Compatibility with most Oak products
- Availability in standard keyways
We can integrate our products into your system and assist with expansions.
